The BMW F650GS - Great Small Touring Bike

There, I said it, and I'm surprised to say it. Granted its detuned engine produces 10 horsepower less than the BMW F800GS, but to offset that the BMW F800GS is six kilo's lighter. When you ride it, it seems to have the same sort of acceleration as the BMW F800GS (despite slightly taller gearing), but more importantly for me, it feels more like a road going motorcycle.

Of course you can still use it off road, but it's not as pitchy as the BMW F800GS. The more conventionally sized 19”cast front wheel helps. Chuck the BMW F800GS on its side and it leaves you a little unsure of the front, where the BMW F650GS doesn't make you think at all (apart from the limits of the tires).

MotoGP - Lorenzo Conquers Qatar

Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo claimed a sensational victory this evening under the dramatic floodlights of the Losail circuit, finally claiming his first premier class Grand Prix of Qatar win. Lorenzo took the lead from the start and held off rival Casey Stoner for the first few laps before conceding the lead and tucking into second. The Mallorcan then played the waiting game, never letting Stoner more than two seconds ahead. With seven laps to go he started to close the distance as Stoner’s pace dropped off, holding off a determined Dani Pedrosa on his tail to take the lead. Lorenzo crossed the line 0.852 seconds ahead of Pedrosa, taking the lead in the 2012 Championship standings with 25 points.

Leaders of Myanmar's most enduring ethnic rebel group met with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi a day after meeting with the country's president, the latest step in the group's effort to open a dialogue to achieve greater autonomy.

The 2 1/2-hour meeting Sunday of leaders of the Karen National Union with Suu Kyi also followed an agreement the group reached Friday with the military-backed but elected government to firm up a cease-fire they made in January.

"These meetings will definitely support our efforts to achieve national reconciliation, and these meetings will help bring about a genuine democratic nation," Suu Kyi told reporters after Sunday's meeting.

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is set to announce the revocation of the 800-baht deposit to acquire an Easy Pass card by June.

EXAT governor Aiyanat Tinapai said the agency is working in collaboration with Bangkok Expressway Co ltd (BECL) to finalize the details of the cancellation process. Once the 800-baht fee is revoked, the EXAT will be put in charge of the distribution of Easy Pass cards.

If the proposal is approved by the EXAT board, the deposit is expected to be waived by this coming June.

Mr Aiyanat pointed out that terms and conditions of Easy Pass are subject to change following the deposit waiver. The changes will include the minimum amount of first top-up at 1,000 baht, and the general minimum top-up of 500 baht.

The EXAT is also planning to open more toll lanes for Easy Pass users, in order to better facilitate motorists.

Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies took up where they left off in winter testing, putting in quick, consistent competitive laps from the start. Texan Spies led for a good part of the session and was the first rider to break under the 1’57 second barrier. He finished the session in fourth, 0.508 seconds from top.
Riding in Heavy Rain - The Thai Raining Season is Coming

The raining season is coming and we should practice drills for bad conditions.

Knowing the road is an important part of wet weather riding because you'll know where puddles form, mud gathers or corners are slippery. If you know the corner ahead has a manhole in the middle, or the road under the flyover gathers water in heavy rain you can be prepared.

Ju Hi Kim set for Second Title-Defense

South Koreas World Boxing Federation Women’s World Light Flyweight Champion Ju Hi Kim is set to make her second title-defense on Friday March 30 in hometown Seoul, taking on tough challenger Ploynapa Sakrungrueng from Thailand.

26-year-old Kim, 15-1-1 (6), won the WBF World title in September 2010 when she outpointed Jujeath Nagaowa from the Philippines, and successfully defended it last July with a unanimous decision over another Thai, Fahpratan Looksaikongdin.

Ploynapa Sakrungrueng, 5-1 (0), turned professional at seventeen in 2010 after an extensive Muay Thai career, and amazingly fought for her first title in only her second bout, losing a decision to another Korean, Yeon-Hee Kim, for a regional strap. Since then she has racked up four straight victories, and at 19 years old has the advantage of youth on her side.

WBF President Howard Goldberg will be ringside for the fight, and the South African is certain it will be well worth the long flight from Cape Town, saying: “I was in South Korea for Kim’s first title defense, and it was a fantastic fight. She is a very entertaining fighter, and when you pair that with the fact that Sakrungrueng is an immensely talented up-and-coming boxer I think we are in for a treat once again”.

Besides the WBF World title, Ju Hi Kim has also captured a host of other championships since her debut in 2001 at only fifteen years of age, some of which will also be on the line against Sakrungrueng.

A sell-out crowd is expected to cheer on the national sporting hero as she attempts to continue her impressive reign as queen of the Light Flyweights.

Thailand offers tax incentive

Thailand Wednesday approved a new tax incentive to stimulate investment in the country’s industrial heartland which was badly hit by last year’s floods, Industry Minister Pongsavas Savasti said.

The Board of Investment agreed to waive corporate income tax for eight years at 150 percent of investment value for all new and extended investment in Pathumthani and Ayutthaya provinces, which were badly affected by the disaster.

“We want to see Pathumthani and Ayutthaya still be the centre of investment,” said Pongsavas.

The months-long floods took a heavy toll on the industrial areas north of Bangkok, with many factories forced to close temporarily, including Honda’s Ayutthaya plant. The tax incentive comes amid a government charm offensive to reassure investors that the kingdom remains a good place to do business.

Govt whips to seek to extend current parliamentary session

Government whips plan to seek extension of the current parliamentary session until late May, the chief coalition whip said Thursday.

Udomdej Ratanasathien, who is also an MP from the ruling Pheu Thai Party, denied that the proposed extension was aimed at expediting deliberation of the government's constitutional amendment bill. "That is just incidental benefit," he said.

According to the chief coalition whip, the extended period would allow the draft laws sponsored by civic groups to be passed by Parliament within the current session. He said that due to the flood crisis late last year, meetings in the early period of the current parliamentary session were often interrupted because many MPs visited their constituencies affected by flooding.

Suvarnabhumi 7th in global survey

Suvarnabhumi Airport was placed seventh in the Best Airport Worldwide category at the 2011 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards, Narongchai Tanadchangsaeng, the deputy general manager of operation lines, said on Thursday.

The ranking, given by Airports Council International (ACI), was for the category of best airport handling more than 40 million passengers a year, FO Narongchai said.

Suvarnabhumi Airport was fifth in 2010 for Best Airport by Size in handling more than 40 million passengers a year.

The top five for the Best Airport handling more than 40 million passengers a year are Changi, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai Pudong and Guangzhou Airport in China.

The ACI announced the recipients of its annual ASQ awards for 2011 last month. However, it declined to give the position of Suvarnabhumi, citing that it depended on the Airports of Thailand (AoT) to reveal the information. The AoT also declined to comment at the time.

The survey is based on the responses of 350,000 passengers in 200 airports worldwide who were asked to rate their satisfaction with the airports they use before boarding their flights.

FO Narongchai said Suvarnabhumi Airport received a higher score on a 5-point scale, from 3.90 in 2007, which was the first year it entered the ACI’s global survey, to 4.32 in 2011.
